Matt Vasgersian

MLB Network Studio Host

Matt Vasgersian is an MLB Network play-by-play announcer and studio host where he regularly appears on MLB Network Showcase, MLB Tonight and Hot Stove, as well as special event coverage and feature programming like MLB Network's Baseball IQ.

Vasgersian co-hosts Hot Stove, MLB Network's live offseason morning show, with Harold Reynolds. In the offseason where news can break at any moment, Hot Stove starts a baseball fan's day by providing live analysis, debate and interviews with MLB Network insiders, current MLB players and celebrity baseball fans.

In addition to his work on MLB Network, Vasgersian hosts Fox Saturday Baseball Pregame Show, which airs live from MLB Network's Studio 3.

Prior to joining MLB Network, Matt was the Padres' lead play-by-play announcer for seven years. Vasgersian previously manned the Brewers' broadcast booth for five seasons after spending six years in the Minor Leagues.

Vasgersian enjoys a longstanding national role with the award-winning NBC Sports Olympic broadcast team, most recently handling play-by-play duties in ski-jumping for the 2010 Vancouver Games, which he also handled in 2006 in Torino. Vasgersian anchored daily studio coverage for the 2008 Beijing Games as well as play-by-play for baseball and softball in Athens in 2004.

Vasgersian hosted The National Heads-UP Poker Championship for five years at NBC, as well as the Sun America Sports Desk, Poker Superstars and the 2001 Toyota Gator Bowl.

In addition to his work for MLB Network and NBC, Matt has been the lead play-by-play voice for Sony Playstation's MLB The Show since 2005.

An accomplished broadcaster on the national level, Vasgersian enjoyed a full-time profile with FOX Sports that included play-by-play duties with FOX Saturday baseball and FOX NFL Sunday. Matt's football seasons have culminated with calling the FedEx Orange Bowl and the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

A 1989 graduate of the University of Southern California, Vasgersian began his baseball career in 1991 in Huntington, W.V., with the short-season Single-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. His ascent through the minors covered a stop at every level of baseball including a Single-A campaign with the Padres in 1992 (High Desert). Vasgersian moved on to Double-A El Paso (Brewers) in 1993-94, Triple-A Syracuse (Blue Jays) in 1995 and Triple-A Tucson (Astros) in 1996. During the 1995 season, he handled play-by-play on ESPN2's Minor League game of the week, Baseball Across America.

Vasgersian also lists among his national credits play-by-play with FOX Sports Net's Baseball Thursday and FX's Baseball Saturday Night, Sports Geniuses, a nightly sports trivia show on FOX Sports Net, Celebrity Blackjack on GSN, and three seasons teaming with NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor on FX's Toughman World Championship Series. From 2004-06, Vasgersian returned to his alma mater, handling play-by-play for USC Trojans Basketball on FSN West.

Matt's annual charity Texas Hold 'Em Tournament last year drew a field of over 300 players and celebrities and benefited Tender Loving Canines Assistance Dogs in Solana Beach and the San Diego County Fallen Officers Fund. In recent years, Matt's tournament has benefited a program training service animals for people with disabilities and the San Diego County Fallen Officers Fund.
