Injured Fuentes to miss All-Star Game
Rockies reliever has mild lat strain, will rest arm during break
DENVER -- Rockies left-handed closer Brian Fuentes is day-to-day with a mild lat strain under his pitching arm.Fuentes, an All-Star, will travel to San Francisco, but he will not compete in the game. The three-time All-Star has had the toughest stretch of his career recently, as he was unable to save four games during the Rockies' 1-9 road trip. He said he started to experience discomfort in his lat after the second game of the Astros series, June 29, when he blew his fourth straight save in the ninth inning. Fuentes, who has converted 20 of 26 save opportunities, said the injury had nothing to do with his struggles. He pitched one scoreless inning this week against the Mets. "And after that last outing it was sore, and I thought I'd give it a day -- and [I] came back the next day and it was still sore," he said. Fuentes will not be placed on the disabled list.
