Pelfrey sharp in second spring outing
Tejada's double drives in Abreu with winning run in 10th
METS 3, BRAVES 2 (10 innings)
at Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Monday, March 3
Braves at the plate: Matt Diaz drove in Jordan Schafer with a single off Billy Wagner in the fourth. Schafer had two hits.
Mets on the mound: Mike Pelfrey allowed two hits, including an infield hit, and retired six batters on groundouts while pitching three scoreless innings in his second start of the spring. Wagner pitched the fourth -- the idea behind him pitching early in the game was to allow him to face the veteran hitters who usually don't play in the later innings -- and allowed a run. Nelson Figueroa, gaining favor with the Mets' staff, pitched two scoreless innings.
Braves on the mound: Left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes, a candidate for the No. 5 slot in the rotation, allowed two hits and a run in two innings. His successor, Manny Acosta, allowed a run in one inning.
Grapefruit League records: Mets 3-3; Braves 3-2.
Up next: The Mets travel to Jupiter, Fla., on Tuesday at 1:05 p.m. ET to play the Marlins for the first time since the final series of last year. John Maine, who buried the Fish in the 161st game of 2007, will make his second spring start, followed by Matt Wise, Pedro Feliciano and Jorge Sosa. Left-hander Mark Hendrickson will get the nod for Florida, with Chris Volstad to follow.
The Braves' Tim Hudson will look for more consistency when he starts against the Phillies at Disney's Champion Stadium on Tuesday at 1:05 p.m. While surrendering a run in two innings against the Dodgers last week, Hudson wasn't happy with the control of his fastball. This will be first of two times the Braves will face the defending National League East champs in Spring Training.
