Rangers at the plate: Frank Catalanotto, who entered the game hitting .154, had a double and a single. Ben Broussard, who was hitting .205 coming into the game, had three singles. Milton Bradley was 0-for-4 in his first Cactus League game.

Angels at the plate: Rookie catcher Bobby Wilson hit his first home run of the spring. Chone Figgins had two singles at the top of the order, and Howie Kendrick, batting seventh, had a double and single. However, both were also thrown out once trying to steal.

Rangers on the mound: Sidney Ponson, who lost out to Luis Mendoza for the fifth spot in the rotation, pitched three scoreless innings, then hobbled off the field in the top of the fourth after twisting his right ankle. Ponson hurt himself covering first base on a bunt. The diagnosis is a mild sprain. Kameron Loe allowed two runs in the sixth.

Angels on the mound: Jered Weaver allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings, the longest outing by an Angels pitcher this spring. The only run came in the third inning, but Weaver stopped the Rangers' rally by striking out Josh Hamilton and Hank Blalock with the bases loaded. He allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out six.

Rangers up next: Eric Hurley pitches for the Rangers against the Mariners at 3:05 p.m. CT Saturday in Peoria, Ariz. Jason Jennings will do his work in a Minor League game. The game will be broadcast in Texas on Fox Sports Southwest and on KRLD 1080 AM.

Angels up next: It's not the traditional Freeway Series, but the Angels face their neighbors, the Dodgers, on Saturday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium at 1:05 p.m. PT. Jon Garland will pitch for the Angels if Dodgers manager Joe Torre elects to use designated hitters in the game. If Torre wants his pitcher, right-hander Derek Lowe, to bat, the Angels will announce another starting pitcher. Gary Matthews Jr. (bruised gluteus) is expected to play, but Vladimir Guerrero (stiff right knee) figures to miss the game.
