ANGELS 9, DIAMONDBACKS 8
at Tucson, Ariz.
Tuesday, March 25

Angels at the plate: Casey Kotchman drove in the Halos' first run with a fielder's-choice grounder that allowed Cesar Izturis to score from third. Nathan Haynes drove home two runs in the second with a triple to left-center field, and then he scored two batters later on a suicide-squeeze bunt by Reggie Willits. Kotchman was in the middle of the action during a three-run fifth, as he drove in two with a homer to right.

D-backs at the plate: Trot Nixon's bloop single in the first scored Orlando Hudson with Arizona's first run. The D-backs scored four in the third inning thanks to a two-run double by Conor Jackson and a two-run homer from Mark Reynolds, his third of the spring. Stephen Drew knocked in a run in the fourth with a double to center field, and Jackson capped the frame with an RBI single to center.

Angels on the mound: After tossing six shutout innings in his previous start, Nick Adenhart was roughed up a bit. He gave up seven runs on nine hits over four innings. In eight frames against the D-backs this spring, he's allowed 10 runs.

D-backs on the mound: In his final tuneup before his Opening Day start, Brandon Webb didn't look particularly sharp, allowing seven runs -- five earned -- on 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings. The right-hander allowed a run in the first, three in the second and three in the fifth.

Cactus League records: Angels 18-7-3; Diamondbacks 10-17-1.

Up next for the Angels: Jered Weaver will have his final spring outing -- in anticipation of a likely Opening Day start in Minnesota -- when he faces the Cubs and Carlos Zambrano at 1:05 p.m. PT on Wednesday at Tempe Diablo Stadium. Weaver has been dominant in Cactus League play, winning all five of his starts with a 1.33 ERA while walking only three batters and striking out 14 in 20 1/3 innings. Angels manager Mike Scioscia has not yet named his Opening Day starter, but Weaver is the odds-on favorite.

Up next for the D-backs: Arizona will travel across town to take on Colorado at Hi Corbett Field on Wednesday. Hector Ambriz will get the start in that game, but plenty of eyes will be on one of the White Sox Minor League Fields at Tucson Electric Park as Randy Johnson gets the start in a Minor League contest.
