Man in Adenhart's death pleads not guilty

06/08/09 1:31 PM ET

A defense attorney on Monday entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of the man charged with killing Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others in a drunk-driving crash in April.

With defendant Andrew Thomas Gallo watching in Orange County Superior Court, attorney Randall Longwith entered the pleas.

Gallo, 22, is charged with three counts of murder and other felonies in the April 9 crash.

Police have said Gallo had nearly triple the legal blood-alcohol level when his minivan ran a red light and crashed in Fullerton, Calif.

Adenhart, 22, who had made his season debut earlier that evening, pitching six scoreless innings in an eventual 6-4 loss to Oakland, died shortly afterward. Two others also were killed and another was critically injured.

This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
