Astros Press Release
Astros to Recognize Boston and West, Texas Victims During Homestand
Will Collect Donations to Aid Relief Efforts; Big and Bright Friday Night, Altuve Bobblehead Also Included as Part of Homestand
HOUSTON, TX-- The Astros return home tonight after a three-city, 10-day road trip to Seattle, Los Angeles and Oakland. In the upcoming homestand, the Astros will face the Cleveland Indians April 19-21, and the Seattle Mariners April 22-24.
HONORING BOSTON AND WEST, TEXAS
The Astros will honor the victims of Boston and West, Texas with a moment of silence at the beginning of tonight's game.
In addition, the Houston Astros are encouraging fans attending games during this homestand against Cleveland and Seattle (April 19-24) to please bring donation items to assist with the relief efforts in the aftermath of the devastation caused by the explosion at the fertilizer plant this week in West, Texas. The team will be collecting the following items, which have been the most requested by the coordinated relief effort: new diapers/wipes, gift cards for grocery stores or home supply stores, travel size toiletries, powdered sports drinks, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, non-perishable canned or boxed food items, clean sheets and towels (new or gently used) and unopened boxed or bagged dog and cat food. Cash donations will also be accepted and will be directed to the ongoing relief efforts.
Collections will take place from the time gates open (90 minutes prior to game time) until the first pitch, at the following locations: Right Field Gate (off of Section 130, exterior Hamilton and Preston); Clock Tower (behind Home Plate, exterior Texas and Hamilton); Atrium (adjacent to Union Station, exterior Texas between Crawford and Jackson); and Center Field (far end of Home Run Alley, exterior Crawford and Preston). In the interest of safety, items will not be allowed inside the ballpark, so collection tables will be placed outside the entries and items will be stored at another location prior to delivery to West, Texas relief agencies.
The Astros thank our fans in advance for their kind consideration and generous support as we strive to assist the good, hardworking people of West with their community's recovery.
The 2013 home schedule is filled with a variety of promotions and events for fans of all ages to enjoy, and the games in the coming days feature a few highlights.
