Umpires, Official Scorers Announced For 2014 All-Star Game
Gary Cederstrom Will Be Crew Chief at Baseball's 85th Midsummer Classic; Jerry Layne Will Serve As Replay Official During All-Star Game
Gary Cederstrom, a crew chief in his 21st year of Major League service, will call balls and strikes and will lead the crew assigned to the 85th Midsummer Classic on Tuesday, July 15th at Target Field, the home of the Minnesota Twins, Major League Baseball announced today.
This marks the second career All-Star Game for Cederstrom, who was the third base umpire in the 2003 Midsummer Classic in Chicago. The North Dakota native has worked two World Series, six League Championship Series, six Division Series and the inaugural National League Wild Card Game in 2012. Cederstrom's crew will consist of fellow regular season crew chief Jeff Nelson (first base), Bob Davidson (second base), Scott Barry (third base), Todd Tichenor (left field) and Vic Carapazza (right field). This is the third career All-Star Game duties for Davidson (1987, 1993); the second for Nelson (2006); and the first for Barry, Carapazza and Tichenor. The Replay Official who will be based in the Replay Operations Center at MLB Advanced Media during the All-Star Game will be crew chief Jerry Layne, a 26-year Major League Umpire.
The Minor League Baseball Umpires who will work Sunday's SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game are Travis Eggert (home plate) of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League; Jansen Visconti (first base) of the Double-A Eastern League; Nate White (second base) of the Texas League; and Matt McCoy (third base) of the Double-A Southern League. All four umpires will be on the field for the Gillette Home Run Derby on Gatorade All-Star Workout Day on Monday, July 14th. McCoy and White also will tend to Sunday's Taco Bell All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game.
The official scorers for the 2014 All-Star Game will be MLB's longtime Minnesota-based scorers Stew Thornley and Gregg Wong and Minneapolis Star-Tribune writer La Velle Neal, the President of the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA). In addition, Thornley and Wong will share scoring duties for Sunday's SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
The 2014 All-Star Game will be played at Target Field on Tuesday, July 15th. The 85th All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports; in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS; and worldwide by partners in more than 200 countries via MLB International's independent feed.
