MILWAUKEE -- Brewers manager Ron Roenicke successfully challenged a play at first base in the fifth inning, taking a run by the Cardinals off the scoreboard.
With two outs and runners on first and second, Matt Carpenter bounced to first baseman Mark Reynolds, who flipped to pitcher Tom Gorzelanny covering the bag.
First-base umpire Jeff Nelson called Carpenter safe, with John Jay coming around to score from second as Gorzelanny protested the call.
Roenicke challenged and the call was overturned after a 1-minute, 25-second review, ending the inning and negating the run.
It was the 14th challenge this season by the Brewers, who have won eight.
