ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Angels Wednesday placed outfielder Garret Anderson on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 22) due to upper back stiffness. To replace Anderson on the roster, the club recalled infielder Alfredo Amezaga from triple-A Salt Lake. These announcements were made by club Vice President/General Manager Bill Stoneman.
Anderson, 31, is scheduled to return to the Los Angeles area and undergo further diagnostic tests tomorrow. He is batting .339 (20/59) with 12 runs scored, four doubles, two home runs and five RBI in 15 games. This marks the first time Anderson has been on the disabled list in his career.

He was the winner of the Century 21 Home Run Derby and MVP of the Mid-Summer Classic in 2003 at Chicago. Anderson also is the Angels' all-time leader in hits and doubles and the winner of the Gene Autry Award (Team MVP) four of the past five seasons.
A native of Los Angeles, Anderson was selected by the Angels in the fourth round of the 1990 free agent draft.
Amezaga, 26, was batting .213 (17/80) with eight runs scored, five doubles, a triple, four RBI and four stolen bases in 19 games at Salt Lake. He leads the club in stolen bases and is second in walks (9).
A native of Obregon, Sonora, Mexico, Amezaga owns a career .246 average (29/118) with 18 runs scored, five doubles, two triples, two home runs and nine RBI in 49 games. He has appeared with the Angels in 2002 and 2003.
