ANAHEIM, CA -- The Angels Friday announced that outfielder Juan Rivera sustained a broken left tibia in a game earlier today while playing winter ball in Venezuela.

Rivera, 28, suffered the injury playing for the Oriente Caribbeans during their contest vs. the Aragua Tigers in Maracay, VZ. Rivera's left leg has been placed in a cast and he will be flown to Miami, Florida, where he will be re-examined by a trauma specialist tomorrow.

Entering play tonight, Rivera had recorded a .241 average (14/58) with six runs scored, one double, four home runs and 12 RBI in 16 games. He joined the club Nov. 30th.

During the 2006 campaign, Rivera established career bests in several offensive categories including average (.310), runs (65), hits (139), home runs (23) and RBI (85). His average ranked seventh among AL outfielders (minimum of 100 games).
