Angels to select contract of Brandon Wood
Club options INF Kendry Morales to Salt Lake, will place OF Juan Rivera on the 60-day DL

ANAHEIM -- The Angels optioned infielder Kendry Morales to Triple-A Salt Lake and will select the contract of infielder Brandon Wood (effective on Thursday) from Salt Lake. To make room on the 40-man roster for Wood, the club will transfer outfielder Juan Rivera to the 60-day disabled list. These announcements were made on Wednesday by Angels vice president and general manager Bill Stoneman.
Wood, 22, is currently batting .278 (22-for-79) with three home runs and 15 RBIs in 20 games with the Bees. In 17 starts at third base and one as the shortstop, Wood has committed two errors. In 2006, Wood played 118 games at Double-A Arkansas and hit .276 (125/-for-453) with 42 doubles, 25 home runs and 83 RBIs.
Rated as the Angels' top prospect by Baseball America in 2006 and 2007, the Austin, Texas, native has connected for 58 home runs and 199 RBIs in his last two Minor League seasons. He set an Angels' franchise and California League single-season record with 43 home runs in 2005 (Dick Simpson, 42, 1962, San Jose). His 53 doubles, 370 total bases and 101 extra-base hits are also Angels' single-season Minor League marks.
Wood will wear No. 3 and his first appearance will mark his Major League debut.
Rivera was originally placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken lower left leg on March 31, 2007 (retro to 3/31). He sustained the injury on Dec. 22 in a collision at first base while playing winter ball in Venezuela for the Oriente Caribbeans. Surgery was performed on Dec. 27 with a rod inserted into the tibia and screws at the top and bottom of the fracture.
