ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Angels named their minor league development and coaching staffs for the 2008 season in an announcement Friday by Director of Player Development Abe Flores.

The Angels, who return to single-A Cedar Rapids for their 16th season, begin their eighth season at three other affiliates (triple-A Salt Lake, double-A Arkansas and single-A Rancho Cucamonga) and their fourth with the Orem Owlz, the club's rookie-level affiliate in the Pioneer League. The Angels will again field rookie teams in the Arizona League (at the Tempe minor league complex) and the Dominican Summer League (in San Pedro de Macoris).

The Angels have an impressive list of managers in their farm system, headed by the Pioneer League champion Orem Owlz' Tom Kotchman. Kotchman, who owns the longest tenure of any Angels' manager (25 seasons), has led the Angels' Pioneer League affiliate to league titles in three of the last four seasons (2004-05-07).

Former major league outfielder Bobby Mitchell takes over at triple-A Salt Lake after spending the last two seasons at single-A Rancho Cucamonga. Bobby Magallanes, who spent four seasons at single-A Cedar Rapids (2003-06), returns for his second stint at double-A Arkansas and Ever Magallanes, who led Cedar Rapids (2007) and Tempe (2006) to the league playoffs in his first two seasons as a manager, will take over at Rancho Cucamonga. Keith Johnson, an 11-year minor leaguer who spent the last two seasons as the Arkansas hitting coach, takes over at the helm in Cedar Rapids. Tyrone Boykin, who has managed seven seasons in the Angels' organization, returns for his second season at Tempe. Charlie Romero, who oversees the Angels' Dominican Complex and has been a part of the Angels' organization for the last 20 seasons, begins his 11th season as the manager of the Angels' Dominican Summer League team.

The Angels' minor league roving staff remains intact in 2008: Bruce Hines begins his 23rd season in the Angels' organization and sixth as the minor league field coordinator; Kernan Ronan, a longtime pitching coach in the Angels' farm system, returns for his second season as the roving pitching coordinator, Todd Takayoshi, the roving catching coach in 2006, begins his second year as the roving hitting coordinator; nine-year major league infielder Rob Picciolo returns for his third season as the roving infield coordinator; and Tom Gregorio, who spent six-plus seasons (1999-2005) as a catcher in the Angels' farm system, begins his second stint as the roving catching coordinator.

The Angels feature some noteworthy names among the affiliate coaching staffs: nine-year major league outfielder Eric Owens, who played for the Angels in 2003, and seven-year major league pitcher Ken Patterson, who pitched two seasons (1993-94) with the Angels, will assist Magallanes at Arkansas as the hitting and pitching coaches, respectively; Dick Schofield, a 14-year major league shortstop who played 10 seasons with the Angels, returns for his second season as hitting coach at Tempe and Trevor Wilson, who pitched in the major leagues for the San Francisco Giants (1988-93, 95) and Angels (1998) will handle the pitchers in Tempe; Damon Mashore, a major league outfielder for the Oakland A's (1996-97) and Angels (1998), will be the hitting coach at Cedar Rapids; and former Angels minor leaguers Brandon Emanuel and Brenton Del Chiaro will move to the coaching ranks with Emanuel handling pitchers in Cedar Rapids and Del Chiaro overseeing the hitters in Orem.
