Nine reassigned within organization; four placed on DL

Nine players were reassigned to the Minor Leagues: right-handers Nick Adenhart and Alex Serrano, infielders Hainley Statia, Kendry Morales and Brandon Wood, outfielders Terry Evans and Dee Brown and catchers Ryan Budde and Bobby Wilson.
All were assigned to Triple-A Salt Lake with the exception of Statia, who was sent to Double-A Arkansas.
In addition, the Halos placed four pitchers on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 21st -- starters John Lackey (strained right triceps) and Kelvim Escobar (torn right labrum) and relievers Chris Bootcheck (strained left oblique) and Scot Shields (right forearm tightness).
All four are eligible to come off the disabled list on April 6.
In a bit of a surprise, the Angels kept only 11 pitchers, a move which manager Mike Scioscia said would help the team until some of its pitchers get healthy.
"We feel we can get by with 11 pitchers right now," said Scioscia. "It gives us a little versatility and depth on the offensive side."
The Halos have six outfielders on the 25-man roster -- Garret Anderson, Vladimir Guerrero, Torii Hunter, Gary Matthews Jr., Juan Rivera and Reggie Willits.
Matthews may be a game-time decision on Monday, as his sprained right ankle has not yet completely healed. Nevertheless, Scioscia is optimistic heading into Opening Day.
"Considering everything we've gone through in Spring Training, we're very pleased with where the club is right now," said the manager.
