Second baseman runs on injured hamstring, takes grounders

Kendrick, sidelined since April 14 with a strained left hamstring, appears to be close to testing his leg in a Minor League rehab appearance, the first step in his return to the Angels lineup.
"Howie ran today and ran very well," Scioscia said. "He hit, and he'll take ground balls. We're in baseball activities. We anticipate he'll be able to get on a rehab [assignment] shortly. He still has to run the bases, but hopefully, he's turned a corner."
Scioscia said Kendrick won't play in a game this weekend, needing more strengthening work, but that he could be back on the field in a Minor League game sometime next week.
"If he can run the bases and come out of it all right," Scioscia said, "there's no reason he won't be able to play next week."
Reagins liked what he saw in Kendrick before the game taking ground balls.
"I can see it in his face," Reagins said. "I've seen him play for long stretches. This is an injury you have to deal with. When he's ready to go, he's going to do some damage for our club when he's in the lineup."
