Guerrero originally said he would defend his title, but having not been selected to play in the All-Star Game, Guerrero decided against missing out on the rare opportunity to rest and spend the All-Star break with his family."If I go, I've got to get there at 6 a.m. the same day I have to hit, and then I have to go right back," Guerrero said. "It's better that I take my three days off and get ready for the second half of the season." Entering Tuesday, Guerrero is hitting .289 with 49 RBIs and 15 home runs after bashing a long ball 436 feet to left-center field at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Monday night. On this date last season, which was just before last year's All-Star break, Guerrero had 14 home runs and was batting .325 with 75 RBIs. With Guerrero out, a new Home Run Derby champ will be crowned. The Derby field includes Chase Utley of the Phillies, Dan Uggla of the Marlins, Lance Berkman of the Astros, Grady Sizemore of the Indians, Josh Hamilton of the Rangers and Ryan Braun of the Brewers, who have all been confirmed by the Commissioner's Office. The remaining Derby spots are expected to be filled by the weekend.
