Angels agree to terms with pitcher Jang
Righty becomes second Korean-born player in system
By Lyle Spencer / MLB
The Angels have added to their South Korean contingent with the signing on Friday of right-handed pitcher Pil Joon Jang to a Minor League contract. Jang, 20, joins fellow right-hander Young-Il Jung, who signed with the Angels in 2006 and has been delayed in his development due to right elbow problems. Jang, who carries 190 pounds on a 6-foot-2 frame, attended Kongiu High School in Kongiu, South Korea and served in the Korean Army. One of the Angels' premier position prospects, catcher Hank Conger, has Korean heritage. Shoulder issues have slowed his defensive progress, but Conger is highly regarded in the organization, creating the prospect of an all-Korean battery in the Angels' future with Jang and Jung dealing to Conger.
