Clarke caps Angels' first-round trio

The Angels completed their first-round bonanza in the First-Year Player Draft with a third choice from the state of Georgia in center fielder Chevy Clarke. From Marrieta High School, Clarke, 18, was their third pick in the first round at No. 30 overall.

This was their own choice, having had two previous picks as compensation for the free-agent signings of Chone Figgins and John Lackey by Seattle and Boston, respectively.

They used those choices to land third baseman Kaleb Cowart of Cook County (Ga.) High School and Cam Bedrosian, a right-handed pitcher from East Coweta High School in Sharpsburg, Ga.

A switch-hitter with superior speed, Clarke, 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, has exceptional upsdide and the ability to be a game-changer, according to scouts. His skill set is similar to that of Michael Trout, one of the club's No. 1 picks last season.
