Santana named AL Co-Player of Week
By Evan Drellich / MLB.com
Santana tossed the ninth no-hitter in Angels history against the Cleveland Indians in a 3-1 victory. He threw 105 pitches and struck out a season-high 10 while walking one. It was the first no-hitter thrown at Progressive Field since its inception in 1994, and was just the fourth no-hitter since '69 (in the divisional era) that did not also produce a shutout.
Santana, 28, became the first Halos pitcher to toss a no-no since Mark Langston and Mike Witt combined to hold the Mariners hitless on April 11, 1990. No Angels pitcher had achieved the feat solo since Witt threw a perfect game against Texas on Sept. 30, 1984.
There have been three no-hitters this season. Minnesota's Francisco Liriano threw one on May 3 against the White Sox, while Detroit's Justin Verlander did it on May 7 vs. the Blue Jays.
Santana (6-8, 3.47 ERA) has never previously won a Player of the Week award.
Butler hit .406 with five homers to earn his third weekly award.
