New-look Angels get eight weekends on FOX
By Alden Gonzalez / MLB.com
Now, it's increasing airtime.
In 2012, the Angels will be making at least eight appearances on FOX Saturday Baseball, one less than the maximum allotted by team, the network announced in unveiling its schedule on Wednesday.
The Red Sox, Cubs, Yankees and Giants will make their way to the national telecast nine times, while the Rangers, Mets and Braves will join the Angels with eight appearances, and the Cardinals and Phillies will follow with seven each.
The Angels games to be carried on FOX are: April 7 vs. the Royals, April 14 at the Yankees, April 28 at the Indians, May 12 at the Rangers, May 26 at the Mariners, June 23 vs. the Dodgers, July 21 vs. the Rangers and Sept. 1 at the Mariners.
The final two Saturdays of the regular season are designated as "wild card" dates, allowing FOX to choose which games it airs. The Angels host the White Sox and travel to face the Rangers on those two dates, so there's a good chance they're on again.
ESPN had previously announced the Angels would make at least two appearances on Sunday Night Baseball -- April 15 at Yankees and May 13 at Rangers.
Also, the team announced that 20 Spring Training games will be broadcast on FOX Sports West and Prime Ticket this year, representing the most extensive spring TV schedule in club history.
All 15 Cactus League home games will be televised (against the White Sox, Mariners, Padres, Giants, Indians, Dodgers, Reds, Brewers, Royals, Rangers, Rockies, D-backs and Cubs). In addition, three road Cactus League games are tentatively scheduled to be on air, plus two exhibition games against the Dodgers in California on April 2 and 4. The three road Cactus League games on TV will be March 24 against the Rangers and March 31 against the Cubs, and then either the March 5 opener against the Athletics or the March 19 game against the Rockies.
The new-look Angels, training in Tempe, Ariz., for the 20th consecutive year, will play their first game at Tempe Diablo Stadium against the White Sox at 12:05 p.m. PT on March 6.
