Pujols slotted at DH while dealing with sore shin
ANAHEIM -- Albert Pujols was given the night off defensively on Saturday after fouling a ball off his shin in Friday's game. He hit third as the designated hitter. The move was just a "normal break" from playing first base for Pujols, manager Mike Scioscia said. "He fouled that ball off his shin, but he could play the field if we needed him to, but we'll DH him today just to give him a little break," Scioscia said. In 61 at-bats as a DH in his career, Pujols entered Saturday batting .344 with five home runs, four doubles and 14 RBIs. He has been the DH in three games this season with one home run, two RBIs and a .273 average. Kendrys Morales started at first base for the third time this season.
Outfielder Peter Bourjos, who hasn't started for the Angels since June 6, is going to play in Sunday's series finale against the D-backs, Scioscia said."He's handling [his limited role] as well as you can," Scioscia said. "This guy comes on the practice field and applies himself, works on a lot of things. He's waiting for an opportunity to contribute. It's obviously not an easy situation for Pete, but he's going to stay ready." In 97 at-bats this season, Bourjos is batting .216 with one home run and nine RBIs. The Angels' shutout Friday night was their ninth of the season and fifth time at home. The three hits were the ninth time the team has been held to five hits or less this season.
