9/20/2014 | Eovaldi seeks to stop Strasburg, sweep-minded Nats

Given his struggles in the second half, the Marlins considered perhaps skipping Nathan Eovaldi for Sunday's start. Instead, the right-hander is staying on schedule, and he will make his 32nd start of the season on Sunday in the four-game series finale with Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals.

9/20/2014 | Zimmerman returns from DL, continues to test hammy

Given all the time he's missed, the likelihood that Ryan Zimmerman could come back from his Grade 3 hamstring strain in time to help out the Nationals as they try to secure home-field advantage in the postseason seemed pretty dim. But in a flurry of rehab activity over the last week, Zimmerman made a convincing case for Washington to activate him from the disabled list in time for Saturday's game at Marlins Park.

9/19/2014 | Zimmermann looks to add to career year in Miami

As the Nationals continue their pursuit of playing at home throughout October, they turn Saturday to Jordan Zimmermann, who has been sharp in D.C. and on the road as part of a career year. Zimmermann, who has allowed three earned runs or fewer in his last 10 starts, will oppose the Marlins' Jarred Cosart.

9/19/2014 | Nats provide enough for Fister's 15th win

The Nationals might not have given starter Doug Fister the type of support he had in his last start, but they did scrape together enough Friday night to beat the Marlins, 3-2, at Marlins Park. Fister yielded two runs and scattered five hits over 6 2/3 innings, and he was rewarded with his team-leading 15th win of the season.

9/19/2014 | Zim joins Nats in Miami, could play this weekend

Ryan Zimmerman has made enough strides in his rehab program to not need any more work at the Nationals' Spring Training Complex in Viera, Fla., where he was rehabbing from a Grade 3 hamstring strain since Tuesday. Zimmerman rejoined the Nationals at Marlins Park on Friday, and he has the potential to be activated from the disabled list by the end of this series.

9/18/2014 | Slow-starting Nats break out behind Gio in Miami

The Nats beat the Marlins, 6-2, on Thursday night, improving to an National League-best 88-64, two games ahead of the NL West-leading Dodgers. The Nationals didn't get much going early against Marlins starter Brad Hand -- getting off to an 0-for-10 start -- until Anthony Rendon pulled a single through the left side of the infield with one out in the fourth inning. That's when Washington took advantage of several Miami miscues to take a four-run lead.

9/18/2014 | Rizzo's guidance has Nats soaring high into October

The Nationals have been moving steadily in the right direction, especially since Mike Rizzo took over the entire baseball operation in 2009. He was given his current title -- president of baseball operations and general manager -- last year.

9/18/2014 | LaRoche keeping sore back rested for playoff run

Although one bruised National, Jayson Werth, appeared in the lineup on Thursday night against the Marlins, first baseman Adam LaRoche didn't join him for the second straight day. The 34-year-old LaRoche, who has been dealing with a sore back for weeks, told manager Matt Williams he was feeling better. But he wanted an extra day of rest so he could be sure he'd be able to help the Nationals throughout the rest of their playoff run.

9/16/2014 | Nats' accomplishments shouldn't be diminished

The Nationals are back on top. Two division titles in three seasons, in this time of parity, should not be scoffed at, diminished or in any way belittled.

After Monday's 4-2 victory against the Braves, Nationals manager Matt Williams declined to name a closer. He was still talking about going with the best matchups whenever possible. However, it may be hard for Rafael Soriano to get his job back.

9/15/2014 | Nats on verge of what could be many celebrations

The Washington Nationals are within one well-placed victory of a division title. Their triumph in this matter is, by all that is logical, a question of when, not if. The real question about the Nats' short-term future would seem to be whether they can finish with the National League's best record, thus qualifying for home-field advantage in two rounds of the postseason.

9/15/2014 | Nats go with Roark in first chance to clinch division

If the Nationals win one of their two remaining games at Turner Field this week, the Braves will have to watch their rivals celebrate winning the National League East on their home turf. If that was not incentive enough, Atlanta is hanging on by a thread in the NL Wild Card race as it sends Aaron Harang to the hill to face Washington's Tanner Roark on Tuesday night.

9/15/2014 | Harper exits game after feeling lightheaded

Nationals left fielder Bryce Harper left Monday's game against the Braves in the top of the fourth inning after feeling lightheaded. According to manager Matt Williams, Harper may have caught the same bug that third baseman Anthony Rendon and first baseman Adam LaRoche dealt with recently.
