The Angels were cruising when Ervin Santana left after seven innings after taking a no-hit bid into the sixth. They had a one-run lead, thanks to Vladimir Guerrero and Garret Anderson. But Scot Shields let the Rays load the bases with no outs in the eighth, and the Angels fell on a two-out hit by Willy Aybar, Erick's older brother.
